Super Bowl Power Rankings

In 1989 Jake “The Fizz” Fizzario, the bastard son of a loose gypsy woman, commandeered Caesers Palace’s $100,000 Parlay Challenge, winning a 10-team parlay, and becoming the official: Las Vegas Parlay King.

In 1990, Clark County casinos stopped accepting anything more than 3 team parlays from Fizzario or any known associates.

The parlay is the most popular of the exotic bets offering the biggest bang for the buck.

Parlay Odds:

2 teams 13-5
3 teams 6-1
4 teams 10-1
5 teams 25-1
6 teams 40-1
7 teams 75-1
8 teams 150-1
9 teams 300-1
10 teams 600-1

The odds of the payoff are much less than the true odds. The true odds, for example, of winning a three-team parlay are 7-1;  the payoff is only 6-1. The true odds of hitting a 10-team parlay are 1,023-1;  the payoff is 600-1.

For most people, the parlay is not a good bet.

For The Fizz, it was money in the bank.

Elvis & Nixon

Monday, January 13th, 2014

Washington DC – December 21, 1970

Mired in Vietnam madness, Elvis surprised The Nixon White House with his 1970 Holiday visit.

Nixon privately preferred the Everly Brothers and thought Elvis sounded black.

He could not, however, look a public relations gift horse in the mouth: an opportunity to re-connect with the young people.

Elvis was upset with his Memphis Mafia and decided it was time to take care of business.

While out of his pill popping mind, he decided to visit Nixon by himself and become a secret agent in the war against drugs.

Not drugs like the pills he was popping, but hippie drugs.

Constipated & packing heat, both Elvis and Nixon were feeling the pressure of being The King.

Both hated the hippies.

Breaking News

Anatomy of Breaking News:

Breaking news is serious business. It’s competitive and cut-throat and there are people that actually get paid for it.

Television stations, radio stations, newspapers, publicists, lobbyists, and reporters are all, somehow, someway, in bed with their corporate sponsors, sports teams, celebrities, or pharmaceutical companies they cover. That’s why, now — more than ever — it is up to the independent blogger to uncover breaking news and dirty secrets.

We won’t rest until the rest rest.

Until our next breaking news story: stay safe America!

Monkey Business

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014

Based on pre-season Vegas odds to win the Super Bowl, the biggest surprise contestants in this year’s post-season tournament are (pre-season rankings in parenthesis): San Diego Chargers (25), Philadelphia Eagles (22), Kansas City Chiefs (21), Carolina Panthers (19), Indianapolis Colts (16), and Cincinnati Bengals (14).

Will any of them win the Super Bowl? In this wacky season of shirtless, veteran handicappers, who knows?

Let’s wax, for a moment, on the remaining teams that won us money:

  • Seattle (12 – 4) bet on them 11 times won 9, bet against 5 times won 3.
  • Green Bay (9 – 6 – 1) bet on them 4 times won 2, bet against 10 times won 7, 1 push.
  • San Francisco (8 – 6 – 2) bet on them 9 times won 6, bet against 5 times won 2, 2 pushes.
  • Denver (9 – 7) bet on them 9 times won 7, bet against 7 times won 3.
  • Cincinnati Bengals (9 – 7) bet on them 11 times won 8, bet against 5 times won 1.
  • Indianapolis (9 – 7) bet on them 10 times won 6, bet against 6 times won 3.
  • San Diego (9 – 7) bet on them 11 times won 6, bet against 5 times won 3.
  • Philadelphia (8 – 7 – 1) bet on them 7 times won 4, bet against 8 times won 4, 1 push.

Teams that lost us money:

  • New Orleans (8 – 8 ) bet on them 8 times won 4, bet against 7 times won 3, 1 push.
  • New England (7 – 9) bet on them 9 times won 4, bet against 7 times won 3.
  • Kansas City (7 – 9) bet on them 10 times won 5, bet against 6 times won 2.
  • Carolina (5 – 11) bet on them 6 times won 2, bet against 10 times won 3.

Power Rankings

Tuesday, December 24th, 2013

Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal invented the Plus/Minus (+/-) Power Ranking System which gives bettors and linemakers alike the ability to, in a glance, notice patterns, trends, strengths, weaknesses, and attempt to avoid pitfalls, setups and fixes.

For 13 years (1976 – 1988) Max Steingrout toiled as a Las Vegas sports betting degenerate, eating out of dumpsters, drinking out of toilets, & losing more than winning. Then, for 18 glorious months, utilizing ”The System,” he became the hottest handicapper on the planet.

At the same time, Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal was feeling the heat. The Nevada Gaming Commission & FBI were breathing down his neck, intent on rooting the final vestiges of underworld elements from Clark County, NV.

Desperate, Lefty needed a patsy.

In 1990 “The Chickenhawk” moniker fell on Las Vegas journeyman Max Steingrout’s head like a guillotine.

He never saw The Black Book coming. It was a set-up, Oswald-style.

Unlike Max, Lefty Rosenthal probably deserved entry into The Black Book.

Max was removed from The Black Book in 1992.

Paint Chips

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013

Like a moth to a flame, Toddler Steingrout gravitated toward soda, candy, paint chips, magic markers and glue. Anything that changed the way he felt.

In 1976, 19-year-old Huckleberry Steingrout arrived in Vegas with a lack of self-control, an addictive personality, a lust for life & an affinity for inhalants.

Never proud & afflicted with undiagnosed ADD, Max spent the cocaine-fueled late 70′s & early ’80′s doing any sub-human job Vegas had to offer. A man’s got to eat, a junkie’s got to get high, and a bettor’s got to bet.

Binge drinking betting orgies resulted in syphilis of the bank and Max resorted to canvassing the Vegas strip handing out escort brochures to tourists. A little action on the side.

They say it’s darkest right before the dawn and in Max’s case it’s true.

In 1986 luminary, Jake “The Fizz” Fizzario (RIP) shot across the Las Vegas desert sky like a comet intersecting with, and brightening Max Steingrout’s life.

Together, they turned Las Vegas upside down with “The System,” culminating in Max Steingrout’s exodus south of the border.

The Fizz (RIP) was done. Max was done. “The System” was done and, in Mr. Steingrout’s opinion, Las Vegas was done.

The corporate takeover was complete. The last vestiges of Meyer Lansky’s crew were run out of town with Lefty Rosenthal & Co.

All these years later, is Max bitter?

No.

He’s just happy to be alive.

Steingrout

In 1976, at the tender age of 19, Upstate New York refugee, huckleberry Max Steingrout, arrived at the Las Vegas Trailways bus terminal.

By 1987 he was a Las Vegas lifer. A hanger on, a degenerate, a chain smoker, a drunk, a drug addict and most important, to the establishment which allowed him to exist in the first place, a gambling addict.

He lost more than he won.

In spite of the smell, the sports books tolerated Max, as long as it wasn’t convention season & as long as he didn’t bother the girls.

In 1987, for the first time in his sordid gambling career, Max Steingrout started to win & win big.

Simultaneously, the Las Vegas Corporate Takeover had began.

Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal was the target of FBI & Las Vegas Gaming Commission investigations.

In a last ditch effort to avoid indictment, & potential entry into The Black Book, Lefty Rosenthal looked at long time associate, Dick Wheeler, pointed at Max and said: ”Make that fucking prick The Chickenhawk.”

Jackie Mason

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013

In 1967 funnyman Jackie Mason ignored multiple warnings, death threats and bullets, and continued to tell Frank Sinatra – Mia Farrow jokes.

He didn’t think it was so funny when, sitting in a car outside a Florida apartment complex, Mason had his nose & cheekbone shattered by a goon wearing brass knuckles.

”We warned you to stop using the Sinatra material in your act,” the goon told him.

Mason stopped using the Sinatra material.

Sinatra

Tuesday, November 12th, 2013

In 1942 Chicago Outfit mob boss, Sam “Momo” Giancana coerced Tommy Dorsey to release the young crooner, Frank Sinatra out of his contract early.

By 1953 Frank’s star was on the wane and he was desperate to land the role of Maggio in From Here to Eternity. He needed this role. It was perfect for him.

The studio wouldn’t give it to him because he’d stolen the studio head’s underage girlfriend, Marlene Dietrich, from him.

Allegedly, Momo told Frank to stop crying like a little girl. The part, for which he would win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, would be his.

In 1960 Frank voiced support for JFK, newly recording the campaign’s theme song: High Hopes!

In March 1963, JFK’s brother-in-law, Peter Lawford, asked Sinatra if he would have Kennedy as a guest at his Palm Springs house. Sinatra was thrilled and went to great lengths, including constructing a helipad, to accommodate JFK.

Kennedy cancelled at the last minute because of Frank’s association with people like Momo, & instead stayed with Sinatra rival, Bing Crosby.

Frank went berserk & took it out on Lawford.

He expelled him from the Rat Pack, cancelled his roles in upcoming movies, & never spoke to him again.

Later, he split from the Democratic party supporting Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.
