The Bomb

August 6, 1945-

Truman was giddy. “Little Boy” was a success.

100 miles off the coast of Japan, aboard the USS Kearney 19 year old signalman Gerry LeTourneau did not hear or feel anything. Instead he saw the huge mushroom cloud get bigger & bigger rising above Hiroshima.

The Allied Naval Fleet was ordered to change direction and face the waves, so not to capsize. Waves became one hundred feet high.

Signalman LeTourneau held onto the rail of the destroyer for dear life.

Later, the bodies came.

Thousand of floating, radioactive, Japanese bodies.

On deck of the USS Kearney, sailors were ordered to install .50 caliber machine guns and shoot holes in the bodies until they sank.
